Jiří Mahen Memorial
The Mahen Memorial is a unique, multifunctional place. On the ground floor, you will find a public library with an extensive book collection, providing advanced library services. On the first floor, there is the Jiří Mahen Museum with a range of unique exhibits and the reconstructed study room of Jiří Mahen. The museum is ideal for literature lovers, theatre enthusiasts, antiquity aficionados, and even fishing enthusiasts. The modern conference and exhibition spaces are located in the attic. The memorial is situated in a picturesque villa where Jiří Mahen resided between 1935 and 1939. The villa is surrounded by a garden where visitors can relax with a book.
The memorial was established in 1992 as a tribute to the life and work of Jiří Mahen (*1882 -†1939), as well as the realization of his vision of a library as a cultural and community centr. Therefore, it hosts lectures, author readings, exhibitions, theatrical performances, and creative writing courses. Educational and entertaining programs are offered for preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools. This includes activities for mentally, socially, and ethnically disadvantaged children too. The library, like the entire memorial, is a branch of the Jiří Mahen Library.
